FACES 2004 Encephalitis Conference
Suggested citation for this article
While most of North America still hibernated in winter’s touch, a determined group of people were busy planning their third annual Friends and Caregivers, Encephalitis Survivors (FACES) Conference. They worked together to share information and support and raise awareness on this rare disease.
Encephalitis is an inflammation of the brain, usually triggered by a viral infection. Many causes of encephalitis exist, including the West Nile virus. Those who survive the illness may suffer permanent physical and mental disabilities, such as paralysis and memory loss.
Last year’s FACES conference was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Many children and adults affected by different types of encephalitis were welcomed, and the guest speaker had survived West Nile encephalitis. This year, the FACES conference will be held in Enfield, Connecticut, August 6–8, 2004. More information is available about FACES 2004 at http://www.encephalitisglobal.com
